Leavenworth Resettles Update!

The week of Jan. 18th was an important week for Leavenworth Resettles (LR).  First of all, the Director of Resettlement for Lutheran Community Services NW, Tacoma (LCSNW), John Forseth, and his assistant Saleem Khan (Afghanistan, former interpreter for U.S. Army) came to FLC to meet with the 21 interested and folks (17 from Faith) who attended to learn and ask questions.  Then, the next morning, most of the Team Leaders of the 10 action teams (housing, employment, medical, cultural/language, food/clothing, etc.) were able to meet to evaluate all that we learned and decided unanimously and passionately that we would carry on!  Nothing is certain yet, as most WA state refugees are settled in the Seattle/Tacoma area where resources and needed agencies are nearby.  Nevertheless, given the urgency and that John was quite impressed by the organization and passion of the LR group, he stated that LCSNW/LIRS would attempt to secure for us 2 families—as early as March-April!  What a difference that will make in their lives!  And just as important, how might our worldview’s be enriched as we receive the gifts of their profound and poignant life’s experiences, traditions, and faith!
